FPV drone filming and video production inside a live automated warehouse
Drone Motion, working under our joint venture Aerial Motion Films with James Singleton of JS Aerial LTD, was commissioned to capture FPV drone and camera footage inside Ocado’s Intelligent Automation environment. The project ran over five days and focused on creating high-impact marketing content that revealed the technology behind one of the most advanced grocery fulfilment systems in the world.
This was a rare opportunity to film inside a fully operational automated warehouse, with live robots, multiple levels and tightly controlled systems that form the backbone of Ocado’s customer experience.
Ocado’s Intelligent Automation division is central to how millions of customers receive groceries quickly, accurately and reliably, yet most people never see what happens behind the scenes. This project was designed to change that.
Using FPV drone filming, we captured fluid, immersive fly-throughs over active robotic grids, showing products being moved between crates and systems in real time. The result was a visually compelling way for Ocado to communicate the scale, precision and intelligence of their automation technology.
While Ocado has shared visuals of its robotics before, this project pushed further, delivering dynamic FPV drone footage inside a live, moving environment, creating content that stands out in both technical and marketing contexts.
The footage was used to support Ocado’s wider marketing and communications around automation, innovation and operational excellence.
Filming inside an active Ocado facility required exceptional planning and control.
Health and safety was critical. One incorrect move over live robots could have resulted in hours of downtime and significant operational impact. Working closely with Ocado’s internal teams, we were given full operational control to safely pause and restart systems when needed, allowing us to capture complex shots without risk.
Across the five-day shoot, we delivered:
• FPV drone fly-throughs over live robotic systems
• Cinematic camera footage on the Sony FX3
• Carefully choreographed movements through multi-level environments
• Content designed specifically for marketing and brand storytelling
This project demonstrates Drone Motion’s ability to operate in high-risk, high-value industrial environments, where precision and trust matter as much as creativity.
Brands and technology companies work with Drone Motion when they need drone filming that goes beyond spectacle.
This project required a team that could combine FPV drone expertise, traditional camera production and rigorous operational discipline. Our experience in complex environments allowed Ocado to open up a normally unseen part of their operation and turn it into engaging, meaningful content.
